Community Contributions

2025-10-11 Martin Aquilina participated in a panel of Italian-speaking lawyers presenting online to the Treviso Chamber of Commerce on the enforceability of Italian judgements in other jurisdictions, namely China, the US, Singapore, Vietnam and Canada. Martin provided tips and explained the pitfalls that an Italian creditor should consider before taking measures in Canada to recover amounts owed or before enforcing an already obtained Italian judgement in Canada. Among the points discussed, Martin highlighted that unlike many countries, Canada is not party to any multilateral treaties regarding the enforcement and recognition of foreign judgments, with only some provinces recognizing rulings from various American States and a few foreign countries, notably in Ontario's case, those of the United Kingdom.

2025-10-19 Martin Aquilina made an in-person appearance in Brussels to speak about the impact of culture on M&A transactions. As part of a panel including practitioners from Spain , the Czech Republic, Germany, and the US, Martin highlighted some of the sociological research that helps advisors understand, and even predict, whether the outcome of an M&A transaction will be successful or not. He concluded his remarks by sharing the theory that transactions that have the greatest chances of success are those where the parties are neither too alike nor too different.
